In honor of the United Nations’ International Volunteer Day on Dec. 5, ProFlowers teamed up with KidsGardening to build gardens at the Sequoia Elementary School in San Diego, California.
Giving back in our local community, close to 30 ProFlowers employees volunteered their time to spruce up a succulent garden, build compost bins, plant fruit trees, and construct four new raised beds to house pollinator-attracting plants.
With great enthusiasm, the school’s garden club students joined ProFlowers volunteers to add soil to the new beds and dig in the colorful array of flowering plants. By the end of this beautiful morning, proud smiles and dirty hands could be found on participants of all ages. Just take a look at these amazing photos!
We believe that flowers and plants have the ability to create an emotional experience. That’s why we teamed up with KidsGardening, a national nonprofit, to bring garden-based learning to the students at Sequoia.
“Children who learn through the garden, benefit in so many ways—physically, emotionally, and socially,” said KidsGardening Executive Director Emily Shipman. “We are a resource for thousands of youth and garden educators across the U.S. with our grants, curriculum and how-to resources.”
The students and staff at Sequoia were thrilled with their new garden.
The work of ProFlowers to support youth garden programs is just beginning this holiday season. As a part of our partnership with KidsGardening, ProFlowers is donating up to $50,000 to KidsGardening to bring the value of garden-based learning to other students nationally through our Gifts for Good™ Collection. Every time you buy a gift at ProFlowers.com/KidsGardening from now through Christmas, we will donate $5 to the nonprofit.* Consider shopping for a cause this year by purchasing one of these special gifts for friends or family.
*The Gifts for Good ™ Collection is available for purchase from 11/25/17 – 12/25/17, and is void in AR, CA & DC.
