Disney's Gardens

Disney's 19th Annual Epcot Flower & Garden Festival is set to run from March 7 through May 20, offering those itching to view spring flowers plenty of time to check out the gorgeous sites. The preparations are currently underway, and the festival is shaping up to be one of the best yet, with a number of exciting attractions that shouldn't be missed.

According to ClickOrlando.com, one of the show's highlights, a Sorcerer Mickey topiary, will be the front entrance's largest floral display in history. The eight-foot-tall Mickey will stand atop a 12-foot floral mountain in front of Spaceship Earth, one of the park's most iconic attractions. A variety of other characters and objects from the movie Fantasia will also be featured in the presentation. The news source reports that pink, orange, blue, white, violet and orange flowers will all be used to bring the scene to life.

A variety of other topiaries will also be on display, featuring characters like Buzz, Woody and Lotso from Disney's Toy Story 3, as well as Lightning McQueen and Mater from the film Cars 2. More than 100 different topiaries are expected to be showcased, and 75 of those will be characters from Disney and Pixar films, making it a great experience for children.

Another highlight, according to LaughingPlace.com, involves HGTV, the sponsor of the show for the third year in a row. A variety of design celebrities and gardening artists from the station will be on hand throughout the event, offering tips and tricks for landscaping and design. John Gidding, the star of the hit show Curb Appeal, will be starting off the event from March 9 to 11.

Those who love plumerias will be thrilled to learn that Just Plumerias, a grower specializing in the blooms, will be exhibiting plenty of examples of the intriguing bloom, which has a unique scent for each colored flower. Some smell sweet, while others smell like jasmine, peaches or citrus fruit. Surely, visitors should take the time to stop and sniff each hue to get the full effect.

Halfway through the festival, LaughingPlace.com reports that Disney gardeners will remove the hardy cold-weather flowers and make way for new spring blooms that flourish in warmer temperatures. A second trip might be necessary!
