If you're planning to purchase Mom a few mixed bouquets for Mother's Day, you might be looking for ways to jazz up the display and make it something that she won't be likely to forget. Sidestep that boring glass vase and take advantage of these creative ideas for Mom on Mother's Day.
1. Framed vases. BrockDesigns.com recommends making a display on the wall that will not only brighten the room, but will also give Mom an excuse to keep her supply of flowers fresh! Pick up a few antique frames, then use wire to fasten glass bottles to hang from the top. Fill them up with water and your mixed bouquets, and help your mother hang them in a wall display.
2. Interior flower box. Who said flower boxes were only for the outdoors? Country Living Magazine suggests installing a cute box underneath a window in the kitchen, foyer or mudroom for an unexpected pop of color that you can enjoy from inside the house.
3. Containers with spouts. If you've got a few extra teapots or watering cans lying around, Better Homes and Gardens Magazine points out that these can easily be turned into attractive floral display containers. Choose blooms with plenty of foliage for a lush, healthy effect.
4. An umbrella. You might not think of an umbrella as a suitable flower holder, but Folk Magazine begs to differ. Simply find an old umbrella (preferably in a cheery color), hang it on a door or a wall, then fill a few folds with flower bouquets. You might want to put each bouquet in a small vial with water to keep them looking fresh. Tie a ribbon around the bottom third of the umbrella for added charm.
5. A rustic vase. Martha Stewart Living has a simple way to create a rustic vase. Just gather up a bunch of sticks from outside (the more uniform, the better) and get your hands on an old coffee can. Cover the can with brown paper or paint, then glue on the sticks closely together so they wrap all the way around. Tie with a piece of raffia or a ribbon, then place the flowers inside!
6. Light bulbs. For daintier bouquets, BrockDesigns.com points to light bulbs as the perfect quirky containers. Just remove the inner hardware, then fashion a handle out of wire as well as a hook. Fill with a bit of water and flowers, then hang them anywhere you'd like - whether it's on a window valance, a few branches or a custom-made wall mount.
